SUMMARY:Maha Guru Bumtsok Prayer Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Mahaguru Million Assembly\, as is the annual tradition at the Sera Jey Buddhist Cultural Institute in New York\, is dedicated to the general aim of promoting the precious teachings of the Buddha\, the source of all benefit and happiness\, and specifically to the flourishing of all the non-sectarian great traditions that have developed in the land of Tibet\, Snow Mountain. This includes the lives and activities of the supreme ornaments of the teachings\, the leaders of world peace\, His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, and other revered teachers of all traditions. It is also dedicated to the swift and early resolution of the Tibetan cause\, allowing the reunion of exiles and residents\, the enjoyment of happiness\, and the pacification of all harmful actions and intentions of humans and non-humans\, as well as the cessation of diseases\, famines\, and conflicts in this world. \n\n\n\nThe Maha Guru Bhumtsok is an annual\, multi-day Tibetan Buddhist prayer ceremony dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava\, primarily held to pray for the longevity of His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, the health of spiritual leaders\, and the resolution of the Tibetan issue. SUMMARY:Avalokiteshvara Initiation
DESCRIPTION:Avalokitesvara is a Bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Known as the “Lord who gazes down at the world\,” this figure is a central\, revered deity in Mahayana Buddhism\, often portrayed with multiple arms to assist sentient beings\, and is considered the embodiment of unconditional\, empathetic love. \n Key Aspects of the Initiation: \n\n\n Purpose: The main aim is to develop a good heart\, increase compassion\, and receive blessings from the Buddha of Compassion\, Avalokiteshvara.\n Method: It belongs to the Action Tantra (Kriya Tantra) or Higher Tantra lineages\, often involving the thousand-armed or four-armed form of the deity.\n Procedure:\n\n Preliminary Preparation: Cultivating the “view of emptiness” and Bodhicitta (the altruistic intention to attain enlightenment for all beings).\n Visualization: Practitioners may visualize Avalokiteshvara above their crown or in front of them\, especially if they have not received prior tantric initiations.\n Mantra: Continuous recitation of the six-syllable mantra\, Om Mani Padme Hum.\n Vows: The ceremony includes taking or renewing Bodhisattva vows to work for the liberation of all sentient beings.\n\n\n Significance: It serves as a method to transform ordinary perception into enlightened compassion\, combating negative emotions like anger and jealousy.\n\nHis Eminence Kyabje Khenzur Rinpoche\, Venerable Lobsang Delek Palzangpo\, will confer the empowerment of the Avalokiteshvara Gyalwa Gyatso\, the deity to whom we are particularly devoted\, a swift path that allows one to attain the state of Vajradhara\, the union of bliss and emptiness\, within a single short lifetime of this degenerate age. We cordially invite all those who wish to partake in this sacred nectar of Dharma to seize this opportunity and join us.
