Guthor Chenmo
Guthor Chenmo is a year end ceremony of purification to remove all obsticles and illness. It is characterized by performing specific puja and religious ceremony where a particular Torma is constructed and puja is performed for three days from 27th to 29th of the 12th month of Tibetan calendar. On the 29th day the Torma is proceeded out of the puja temple and the final ceremony is done before being set on fire for purification. This symbolizes purification of obstical and illness of year end and well coming a new year. This year Guthor Chenmo falls on 9th of February.
Tamdin Phur Jel
Tamdin Phur Jel (observing and receiving blessing) ceremony is one of the unique religious festival of Sera Jey Monastic University. This ceremony falls on 27th day of 12th month of Tibetan calender. Sera Jey Khen Rinpoche, Abbot will take a week long retreat and make dedication and blessing to this Holy relic. On this particular day, Sera Jey Khen Rinpoche will place holy relic on devotee's head and give blessing. Sera Jey Monastic community, Tibetan lay community members and other devotees will attend the ceremony and receive blessing of Holy relic. The Holy relic is being thoroughly processed of the traditional retuals before being made available for blessings to the public. This holy ceremony falls on 7th of February.
Guru Bumtsok
Sera Jey Monastic University organizes Guru Bumtsok ceremony and offerings on 2rd February which is dedicated to world peace and harmonous humanity. This special prayer service is also dedicated to long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and all other spiritual masters. We pray for every living beings for their health and longivity. Guru Bumtsok ceremony will be held at Sera Jey Main Prayer Hall with presence of entire Sera Jey monk community.
Jintsek Fire Puja
On 1st of February, Jintsek Fire Puja is conducted after the complition of an eight day Hayagriva retreat. This event symbolizes purification of environment and obsticles.
Hayagriva Retreat
Sera Jey Monastic University organizes an 8 day Hayagriva retreat starting from 24rd of January to 31st January. During this retreat session, we do recitation of Hayagriva and prayer for world peace and harmony. We pray for long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and all other spiritual masters. We pray for the benefactors and every living beings for their health and longivity. This retreat is hold at Sera Jey Main Prayer Hall with presence of entire monk community.
Venerable Pare Rinpoche, residential lama of Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center
In end of January 2013, Venerable Pare Rinpoche will return to New York to resume his role as the residential lama of Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center. Rinpoche was appointed by Sera Jey Monastic University as residential lama of the Center in June of 2012. Rinpoche served as residential lama of Sera Jey Center in Taiwan from 2002 - 2004. Ven. Tsultrim Gyaltsen will accompany Rinpoche as his attendant.
International Conference on Science and Buddhism
From January 17th through 22nd, 2013, International Conference on Science and Buddhism will hold in Drepung Loseling Monastery. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will lead the Conference. Representatives from western scientists and Tibetan Buddhist scholars will attend the Conference. Geshe Lobsang Wangdu, Acting Abbot of Sera Jey Monastic University, Geshe Nyima Tashi, Geshe Lobsang Ngodup and 50 Sera Jey monks will attend the conference. The Conference is jointly organized by Mind Life, ETSI and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.
Sang Chos Monlam Chenmo (samantabhadra carya -pranidhana)
The annual Sang Chos Monlam Chenmo (samantabhadra carya - pranidhana) prayer ceremony, held after the one week period of Chugu Choepa (Nineteenth Offering) in veneration to Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen's anniversary, has been started today on 7th, January 2013.
The prayer ceremony is one of the major spiritual curriculum and it is held with profound reverence by the entire sangha community.

Venerable Jado Rinpoche, newly appointed Lama Aumze of Gyuto Tantric Monastery
We are very pleased to announced Venerable Jado Rinpoche's appointment of Lama Aumze of Gyuto Tantric Monastery by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on January 4th. Prior to his role as Lama Aumze, Rinpoche served as Abbot of Namgyal Monastery, a personal monastery of HH the Dalai Lama. Khen Rinpoche Tenzin Jampa Choesang Rinpoche, the current Abbot of Gyuto Tantric Monastery and Jado Rinpoche are both member of Sera Jey Monastic University.
Education workshop
Sera Jey Monastic University (SJMU) organizes and provides a month and half long winter Education workshop for Tibetan Childern Village (TCV) and other day school students of Bylakuppe which starts on Jan 1st 2013. This is the 3rd year, Sera Jey Monastic University (SJMU) is providing Education workshops for the students for free of charge. The Education workshop is hold at Yiga Choeling Center, Sera Jey Monastic University (SJMU). The students are provided Education workshop subjects including Tibetan, English, Science, Math and an Introduction on Buddhism.
Chugu Choepa
Sera Jey Monastic University organizes Chugu Choepa, a special ceremony which commemorates Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen observed on the 19th day of 11th month of Tibetan lunar calendar. This is one of the most important annual religious services at Sera Jey Monastic University. Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen is the author of SJMU's academic text books. This year, Chugu Choepa falls on January 1st 2013. During this time, Lama Choepa Tsok offering was performed by Sangha members of SJMU. Tens and thousands of butter lamps were offered at the event.
Gaden Nyamchoe Lama Tsongkhapa Day
On December 8th, 2012, Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center organized and sponsored an annual Gaden Nyamchoe Lama Tsongkhapa Day celebration at the Center. Gaden Nyamchoe is one of the most important religious celebrations of Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism which commemorates parinirvana of Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. During this celebration, Lama Choepa Tsok offerings and 1000 butter lamps were dedicated.
Teaching Tour by Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Delek
On December 18th 2012, Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Delek, Abbot/President of Sera Jey Monastic University began teaching tour to Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. Khen Rinpoche is accompanied by Geshe Thupten Monlam, senior administrator of Sera Jey Monastic University. During this tour, Khen Rinpoche will give teaching on Buddhism to a number of Buddhist Centers in Asia. A group photo of Khen Rinpoche greeted by member of Buddhist Center during his visit.
Geshe Ngawang Sangay, newly elected Dean
On December 17th 2012, Geshe Ngawang Sangay of Ngari Khangtsen was elected as new Dean, Ge Ko of Sera Jey Monastic University (SJMU). Dean over sees academic activities and monastic operation. His tenure ends on 25th day of 10th month of Tibetan Calendar which falls on December 27, 2013. Prior to his role as Dean, Geshe Sangay served a three year term in the Academic Committee of Sera Jey Monastic University (SJMU). He received Lharampa Geshe in 2001.
