Welcome to Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center!

Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center (SJBCC) is a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit religious and cultural organization established in 2009 in State of New York. The Center functions as an official branch of Sera Jey Monastic University of India in the United States. It is dedicated to the preservation and fostering of Tibet’s unique Buddhist tradition and cultural heritage to the Tibetan community of greater New York and the general public. Sera Jey Monastic University in India was re-established in Bylakuppe, Mysore, Karnataka State in 1970. The original Sera Jey Monastic University was established in Tibet in 15th century AD by Jetsun Kunkhen Lodoe Rinchen Senge, a close disciple of Great Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Since the establishment of Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center, it organizes and provides a wide range of programs on Buddhist Philosophical Teachings, Culture, Prayer & Ritual Ceremonies to the Tibetan community of greater New York which is the largest in North America and the general public without any cost charges. The Center is located at 41-30 57th Street, Woodside, NY 11377. In June of 2012, Sera Jey Monastic University had appointed Venerable Pare Rinpoche as the Center’s first residential lama. Following his retirement, Venerable Chokhor Rinpoche (Geshe Lendup Chundu) has been instated the new residential lama in May 2023.

Mani Recitation

pre-mane thungyur-2018Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center, New York is organizing Mani Dhungyur (100 million) and Prayer Recitation during the holy month of Saka Dawa.

Venerable Pare Rimpoche, resident abbot and lama of SJBCC will lead the ceremonies.

Hayagriva Retreat

Hayagriva Retreat_2018_-_newsA 11 day Hayagriva Retreat was held at Sera Jey Monastery, from March 4 - 14, 2018. It was followed by a major Hayagriva Fire Puja and Tsok Offering Ceremony on March 15, 2018. The retreat and Fire Puja was performed with immense sacredness by the monk community of Sera Jey. Lay devotees were also invited to observe the retreat at a different location within the premises, teachings were also imparted to them along with tea and lunch service on all days.

Sangchos Monlam Ceremony

Sangchos Monlam_2018The Great Prayer Ceremony (Sangchos Monlam) was held at Sera Jey Monastery from Jan. 28 - Feb. 1 of 2018. The entire monk community of Sera Jey convened to perform the annual Great Prayer Ceremony.

Hayagriva Initiation_20Dec2017On December 20, 2017, His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama granted Tamdin Wang / Hayagriva Initiation at Sera Jey Monastery. Around twenty thousands monks, nuns and lay devotees attened the sacred religious ceremony.

 

3rd Intl. Vinaya Conference

Inauguration 3rd_Vinaya_Conference_Dec2017_copySera Jey Monastery held its 3rd International Conference on Vinaya on December 16 - 18, 2017. Speakers from different Buddhist traditions - Thailand, Srilanka, India, Bangladesh, Taiwan and Tibet participated in the 3rd conference.
