Welcome to Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center!

Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center (SJBCC) is a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit religious and cultural organization established in 2009 in State of New York. The Center functions as an official branch of Sera Jey Monastic University of India in the United States. It is dedicated to the preservation and fostering of Tibet’s unique Buddhist tradition and cultural heritage to the Tibetan community of greater New York and the general public. Sera Jey Monastic University in India was re-established in Bylakuppe, Mysore, Karnataka State in 1970. The original Sera Jey Monastic University was established in Tibet in 15th century AD by Jetsun Kunkhen Lodoe Rinchen Senge, a close disciple of Great Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Since the establishment of Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center, it organizes and provides a wide range of programs on Buddhist Philosophical Teachings, Culture, Prayer & Ritual Ceremonies to the Tibetan community of greater New York which is the largest in North America and the general public without any cost charges. The Center is located at 41-30 57th Street, Woodside, NY 11377. In June of 2012, Sera Jey Monastic University had appointed Venerable Pare Rinpoche as the Center’s first residential lama. Following his retirement, Venerable Chokhor Rinpoche (Geshe Lendup Chundu) has been instated the new residential lama in May 2023.

Enthronement Ceremony of 104th Gaden Tripa

Geluk IF_AnnouncementThe Entrhonement Ceremony of 104th Gaden Tripa Lobsang Tenzin will take place on 4th & 5th August 2017 at Geluk International Foundation, Mundgod (KS) India. A Long Life Offering to the 104th Gaden Geluk IF_AnnouncementTripa is also organized during the ceremony.

 

Welcome Ceremony for 104th Gaden Tripa

Sera Jey Monastery is extending a grand Welcome Ceremony and a Long Life Offering Ceremony to His Eminence 104th Gaden Tripa Lobsang Tenzin, upon his return from the enthronment ceremony at Gaden Monastery. Kyabje 104th Gaden Tripa Lobsang Tenzin will grant Lamrim Teachings to monks and lay devotees on the following day after the Welcome and Long Life Offering Ceremony. Details of the program are as

celebration of His Holiness 82nd Birthday

celebrating 82nd_Birtthday_of_HH_The_Dalai_LamaSera Jey Buddhist Culture Center organized a gala celebration of His Holiness The Dalai Lama's 82nd Birthday at its center premises. Prayer for the long life of His Holiness The Dalai was presided by Venerable Pare Rimpoche, the head lama and abbot of the center, followed by cake cutting and sangsol ceremony. Many Tibetans from New York and New Jersey participated in this special celebration ceremony.

Lama Choepa Offering Ceremony

Sera Jey Buddhist Culture Center, conducts Lama Choepa (Guru Puja) Offering Ceremony twice on the two auspicious dates of 10th and 25th day of every Tibetan calendar month. The Center's head lama - Venerable Pare Rinpoche and member monks perform the Lama Choepa (Guru Puja) Offering Ceremony, in dedication to the long life of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, all living masters and for the benefit of all sentient beings.

The total costing for conducting each Lama Choepa (Guru Puja) towards Thorma (Flower Butter Sculpture), Tsokh, Tea & Bread offering works over USD 250 (two hundred fifty).

Guthor Chenmo

Guthor ChenmoGuthor Chenmo is a year end ceremony of purification to remove all obsticles and illness. It is characterized by performing specific puja and religious ceremony where a particular Torma is constructed and puja is performed for three days from 27th to 29th of the 12th month of Tibetan calendar. On the 29th day the Torma is proceeded out of the puja temple and the final ceremony is done before being set on fire for purification. This symbolizes purification of obstical and illness of year end and well coming a new year. This year Guthor Chenmo falls on 9th of February.
